Today I learned so much about the houses in Mesopotamia. I also helped build some! No matter if the people were rich or poor, every family in Mesopotamia has a house. The rich people have wide, large houses. The poor people had small, narrow houses. Each house was at least three stories high. That made it more difficult to build. The first floor included an entryway and a courtyard. The next two floors were the living spaces. The bedrooms, the living room, and the kitchen were on these floors. The roof of the house was flat. The people treated the roof as if it was another floor. When the weather was good, the people would cook and eat on top of the roof. The houses were made of cut sandstone or mud bricks. The poorer people’s houses were connected, so they could cut down on construction costs. The richer people’s houses stood alone.
